Asus Vivobook S15, what comes to your mind after listening the name? If i told you to go out and buy a laptop, what are the first laptop manufacturing company that comes to your mind? Apple, Dell, HP. But we never try look for laptop apart from these manufacturers.

But this time we dared, dared to look into specification rather then the brand. I was a little tight on the budget, but wanted a performance power house. I decided to have a budget of around 60k.

So we were looking for best laptop under 60000. Many suggested of Mac Book Air and I might have gone for that. The mac-book Air comes for around 55K, so it means it was in the budget. But it had the specification of i5 processor(older generation), no retina display, SSD(that’s good) but only 128 GB.

Mac-book Air is a good machine but did not suit my need. I needed a good day to day performer which would handle little heavy tasks, little of gaming and perform throughout the day. Mac-book Pro is what I needed, but the price of that laptop is something I would just rather not invest for(at this stage at least).

So in November my hunt for new laptop began. Obviously I was looking at branded companies for laptop. I was searching specifically for i7 7th generation. This is when some one told me, why not go for i5 8th gen. Then I started a little bit of research, turns out i5 8th gen is better performer then i7 7th gen. Here is the user-benchmark comparison of the two.

This is when I stumbled upon Asus Vivobook s15. The laptop had the perfect on sheet specification. It has everything that we needed as a YouTuber, blogger and the future Entrepreneur(as i like to call myself).

Definitely look out for my final thoughts at the end of the article where I give my final impressions and thoughts on Asus Vivobook S15.

Asus Vivobook S15 Detailed Review

Laptop First Impression

When you look at the laptop for the first time you just fall in love with it. No I am not bragging, the design is simply amazing. If you like plastic body material, then you might not like it. The laptop has a complete metal body design. When you hold the laptop you get that amazing premium feel.

It is amazing to see how they managed so many ports in the laptop while getting this sleek body design. I really love the metal body and the slim design of the laptop.

The laptop is very light for carrying around. You might not really feel the weight of the laptop in your bag. No, just joking, you will feel it but not that heavy. The laptop weights around 1.8 Kg.

The first impression of the Asus Vivobook is pretty good. You will definitely want to buy the laptop on the first look. But as they say, it not whats outside but it matters whats inside.

Laptop Ports

People using the mac-book pro might say its awesome to have less ports or we love less ports, but not me. I am some one who needs many ports. Because while me working one port is constantly in use for my wireless mouse. So i need extra ports to connect USB or my smartphone sometimes.

Asus has really impressed in this area of laptop. In Asus Vivobook S15 they have managed to get the sleek design along with trying to retain as many ports as possible. Kudos to the efforts by Asus. And keep as many ports as possible in the future.

The Asus laptop has a 3.5 mm headphone jack, USB Type-C (3.1), USB 3.0, 2 USB 2.0, 1 HDMI and a card reader slot. These ports will definitely come in handy for blogger and YouTubers. And who doesn’t want extra.

Nano Edge Display

The display is one of the main highlights of the laptop. The company has stressed on the fact that the device has a ‘Nano Edge’ display. The Nano Edge display means the display has fewer bezels on the sides as compared to those conventional laptops(not nano but micro would have been good name).

Believe me, you would love the display. The pixels are clear and the display has very good viewing angle. I love less bezel devices, this has just added to that feel.

The laptop sports full HD Display with a resolution of 1080×1920 pixels and has LED back lit screen, the images and video looks really crisp . Viewing movies and other multimedia content is a delight in this laptop.

Big Battery Life

This is one department that we need to talk about. Asus has stressed about the big battery life and fast charging. It is mentioned that the devices has around 8 hrs of battery life. But this is not what we have noticed.

The fast charging is really awesome, the device gets charged quickly. Me coming from the dell laptop which took around 3 to 4 hours to charge completely from 0, this is like Flash charging to me.

But talking of battery life we got only 3 to 4 hours of battery life. There is also a bug I guess, when sometimes it shows 80% battery left but shows just an hour left of battery.

Keyboard and fingerprint scanner

I was really excited to use the back lit keyboard of Asus Vivobook S15, since I have never used it in my life. You can activate the keyboard back-light by pressing Fn and F4. The best part is you can control the lighting of the keyboard as well.

The one thing I am a little worried is about the power button, since it is along with other keys. So if the keyboard breaks then we might not be able to use the power button. The keyboad also feels light and no feel on clicking, you don’t really get that click feel while pressing the button.

The laptop also has a finger print scanner. Yes, even I can’t believe it. Its amazing to see how they managed to add the finder print scanner under this price range.

Now Coming to the part of Asus laptop that we all want to talk about. My view of this device is simply Amazing. The laptop has not disappointed me as of yet. I have used two RAM eaters side by side(Google Chrome and Adobe Premiere Pro) Multiple tabs and windows open and rendering some heavy video files.

But the machine runs fine. You will hear the fan running in this situations. By the way the laptop has one big slot for heat exhaust below the display. The Intel i5 8th Gen has 4 cores, so performance should not be the problem.

I even played some games like CS Go and Fifa 17. And it was as smooth as butter. No lags were noticed nor any performance issues. But yes this machine is not for heavy gaming.

The laptop has a huge 1 TB hard drive. But we wanted more, the Asus laptop also has SSD slot. So in the near future when we would make some more money, we would buy that SSD and run the OS out of it. This would seriously improve the performance of the laptop.

But still 1 TB is good enough as for now. But it would have been awesome if SSD was included and the OS was run from SSD from the beginning.

One who wants to get started with his blogging or YouTube journey then this laptop is for you. You can also use this for your daily needs if you are a student or just doing freelancing.

But definitely for budding entrepreneurs who want run some analysis software or creators like me who would like to create some stunning visuals or use adobe products for editing, then this laptop is for you.

Who should not buy Asus Vivobook S15?

If you are a heavy gamer and want a heavy gaming machine then this not what you should go for. 2 GB of graphics is not good enough for any gaming machine.

You can definitely run some games but not use it as a dedicated gaming machine.

Final Thoughts

Ok, some might think that I might be a little biased while giving by final thoughts on this laptop. And yes I will be a little biased. I really loved the look and feel of the device. You get a two year global warranty with this device.

The performance that I am getting as of yet is simply amazing, I have no complaints as of now. But it is to be seen how the machine performs in the long run.

The one thing I am a little worried is about the service from Asus. Many people said that the service is not that good, but i don’t really know what will happen. But that is to be looked in the future.

But apart from that, I am pretty happy with the Asus vivobook S15. There are two versions of the laptop. The difference is just the processor and GPU, both the laptop link are given below.
