Here are the detailed versions of the operating system which Whatsapp will stop providing service to.
- BlackBerry, including BlackBerry 10.
- Nokia S40.
- Nokia Symbian S60.
- Android 2.1 and Android 2.2.
- Windows Phone 7.1.
In Whatsapp’s latest blog post, they first mentioned about their seventh anniversary (which by the way happened last week ).They described about their journey so far. Which began in 2009 when the android market and the app store were just beginning to get pace (means they were newbie’s) and their path to glory. They also mentioned that Mobile operating systems offered by Google, Apple and Microsoft – which account for 99.5 percent of sales today. Which means majority of their market are acquired by these operating system and only 0.5 % of its customer’s are using different platform. As to see the Whatsapp story began with these operating system only. As at the beginning of the smart revolution these phones by Nokia and blackberry were used by most of the people. But as time changed the user diverted their faith towards more efficient, simple, and cheaper operating system (cheaper refer to android not IOS).
They mentioned in their post that it was a hard decision to make. To stop providing service to the customer with whom they started their App service. But the reason they give shows that now they are trying to focus on android and IOS, which would provide them less things to worry about and their working area would be to a certain limit only which would help them in providing better service to these to platforms.
The service to these operating system will be discontinued by the end of 2016. They mentioned their sadness and said that it was a tough decision to make. They also mentioned as quoted “While these mobile devices have been an important part of our story, they don’t offer the kind of capabilities we need to expand our app’s features in the future.”
There are not much user’s with the affected operating system since these operating system are nowhere to be found used by the people. But if you are the unlucky one they you have no other option but to switch to either Android or IOS.
